10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not always exciting for a lot of us. But it is important. As the winter near an end and we begin looking forward to spring, something inside of us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and purging things we’ve piled up throughout the winter.

But who says spring cleaning is limited to the inside of a home?
The exterior of your home could use some tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the curb appeal of your home in Kent, and, even more important, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save a lot of money over the years to come.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the best time to clean out your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a huge mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not properly cleaned.

Plus, pests and animals are looking for places to build their homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help to prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Exterior window cleaning is essential for spring cleaning. First floor windows shouldn’t give you too much of a problem, but second and third floor windows can be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a hard chore, and it will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You don’t want clean gutters and windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your home, outdoor furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not too much effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they won’t permanently stain your home, and you can prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem strange because you’ll be driving on it, but, a clean, well-maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is pavement, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really make it stand out!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use during the summer, so it can be easy to overlook it during the winter when you are not doing as much outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio can be in rough condition the first time you step onto it in spring.

Detergent and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or algae, you need to think about a more serious option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Mold and moss are typical home roof issues in Kent. While you are cleaning the exterior of your home, it is an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof as well, but you’ll need to use a different process than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is typically obvious, too. These particles cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.

The ideal course of action for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and leave it sit. This will eliminate any organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.

7. Tidy up the Front

The front of your home is what most people see, so make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a well-maintained exterior will improve your day, and it will encourage you to spend more time outdoors.

Clean your front porch with soap and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and think about painting it a new color for a bright look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Garden Tools

You will soon be spending much more time outdoors, so spring is an excellent opportunity to organize whatever you’ll need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools and pool care equipment should all have an exact place outside your home – a place that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the exterior of your home so much more throughout the time of year when you spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your yard, trees and garden bushes make a big impact on the look of your home.

Kill weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up areas where you will be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can spray pre-emergent weed killer to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After being unused for several months, your grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can make you and your family ill.

Wipe it down to remove leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you don’t leave behind particles that can get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.

You can probably complete all of these projects after a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call! Kent Pressure Washing offers professional residential exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
