METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods for removing gum from concrete depends on how long the gum has been stuck there and the level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the chewing gum was left recently and it has not penetrated the surface yet, we are sometimes able to remove it by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping it off with a putty knife.

The ice forces the chewing gum to freeze into a more forgiving substance compared to a warm and sticky mess. Once that happens, we slide a putty knife or scraper under the gum residue. Then we move the scraper slowly under the gum and the entire piece should peel right off of the concrete.

The above method is only possible with gum that is brand new.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is already smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat turned up to 200 Degrees to melt the gum. For this type of gum removal, we do not use high pressure because that might harm the surface of the concrete!

Our team never uses any more pressure than needed to clean concrete surfaces. These types of surfaces can be damaged a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional chewing gum removal professional.
